Routine Gynecological Examinations
A routine gynecological evaluation includes the breast and pelvic examination and screens for various cancers, infections and hormonal imbalances.
Menopausal Management
Menopausal Management includes evaluation of the menopause status, other hormonal changes and the symptoms involved in this change of life. Management of these symptoms can be discussed, including lifestyle, hormonal or other pharmaceutical methods.
Family Planning Management
Family Planning Management can include the discussion of many birth control options or, on the other hand, improvement on the ability to conceive including natural family planning methods.
Thin Prep Pap Smear
The Pap smear is a test used to screen for cervical changes. The cervix is located at the lower end of the uterus. In some instances, these cellular changes can lead to cervical cancer. If treatment is indicated, many of these procedures can be performed within our facility with favorable outcomes.
HPV Culture with Typing
HPV or Human Papillomavirus is the most common sexually transmitted infection. There have been more than 100 types of this infection identified. Some of these types of HPV lead to cancer of the cervix. With amplified testing, the HPV virus can be narrowed down to both low and high risk, allowing for appropriate treatment recommendations based on the infection identification.
Gardasil Vaccinations
The Gardasil Vaccination protects against the two types of HPV that lead to cervical cancer, as well as two types that cause genital warts. The vaccination is recommended for those individuals between the ages of 9-26. The Gardasil Vaccination is administered over a six-month period, and consists of three separate doses.
Routine Obstetrical Care
Routine obstetrical care can include the screening for high risk factors of the pregnancy, as well as the normal growth and development of the baby. We can assist the mother in dealing with the daily difficulties of the pregnancy, and the changes that her body is experiencing.
High Risk Obstetrical Care
High risk situations can include such problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, blood clotting disorders, or other medical complications that can affect the pregnancy. We work with a number of very qualified Perinatal groups in the area to manage the most complicated pregnancies.
Gynecological Ultrasound
A Gynecological Ultrasound can diagnosis various structural abnormalities of the female pelvis. We use to help us determine modalities for various gynecological problems including menstrual disorders, ovarian dysfunction, pelvic pain, post menopausal bleeding and various other conditions. We provide ultrasound in both our Rockville Pike Office and as well as our Laurel Office locations. Our Rockville Pike Office is available for ultrasound on Thursday evenings for your convenience.
Obstetrical Ultrasound
An Obstetrical Ultrasound allows us to evaluate the development of the pregnancy from first trimester to delivery. We provide ultrasound in both our Rockville Pike Office as well as our Laurel Office locations. Our Rockville Pike Office is available for ultrasound on Thursday evenings for your convenience.
Endometrial Biopsy
An Endometrial Biopsy evaluates abnormal bleeding both in the reproductive age and post menopausal woman. It helps to evaluate hormonal imbalances as well as precancerous, as well as cancerous changes in the uterus. For the convenience of our patients, we have a physician available one Saturday a month in our Laurel Office location.
Colposcopy
A colposcopy is a procedure done in our office in which the physician will look at the cervix through a magnifying device. A colposcopy is done when the Pap smear indicates that there are cellular changes that could possibly be precancerous. If the physician visualizes abnormal areas, a biopsy may be done. The biopsy consists of the physician removing a piece of the abnormal tissue, which will be sent to the laboratory for interpretation. The result of the biopsy will determine the recommended plan of treatment.
Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP)
A LEEP procedure is the removal of the area containing the abnormal cells on the cervix. A LEEP is performed if the biopsy result from a colposcopy indicates that further treatment is needed. This procedure can either be performed here in our office, or at an outpatient facility.
Endometrial Ablation
Endometrial Ablation is a procedure that destroys a thin layer of lining within the uterus. This is done for those suffering from heavy menstrual flow. After this procedure, most women’s menstrual flow with stop completely. There are cases in which woman will have a reduced menstrual flow. This procedure is not recommended for those individuals who are still considering childbirth. Our office performs the Endometrial Ablation procedure in an outpatient setting.
Laparoscopic Surgery
Laparoscopic Surgery can address a variety of gynecological problems including ovarian cysts, ectopic pregnancy, uterine fibroids and pelvic pain.
Hysteroscopic Surgery
Hysteroscopic Surgery is used to diagnosis and treat problems of the uterus, including abnormal bleeding and uterine masses. Certain sterilization techniques can also be done through the hysteroscope.
Sterilization Procedures
There are a variety of sterilization procedures available, including laparoscopic and hysteroscopic techniques. Our highly qualified doctors can discuss these options with you at your office visit.
Hysterectomy
This procedure is the removal of the uterus and may or may not remove the ovaries at the same time. This is done for a variety of reasons, including benign tumors of the uterus, bleeding disorders, intractable pain, and precancerous changes. It can be done through many approaches, including the standard abdominal hysterectomy, vaginal hysterectomy and laparoscopic hysterectomy.
